A Review of Small–Medium Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Technologies and Their Role within the 100% Renewable Energy Systems Scenario

The energy transition towards a scenario with 100% renewable sources (RES) for the system is starting to unfold its effects and increasingly accepted. In such scenario, predominant role will be played by large photovoltaic wind power plants. At same time, electrification of consumption expected develop further, ever-increasing diffusion electric transport, heat pumps, power-to-gas technologies. not completely predictable nature RES their well-known drawback, it require use storage technologies, in particular large-scale power-to-chemical conversion chemical-to-power re-conversion, view transition. Nonetheless, there lack literature regarding an analysis potential small–medium CCHP technologies scenario.
